ANCHOR DEVOTIONS (SEPTEMBER 05, 2011)

Now is the Time
Matthew 20:29-34

"Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him."
(Matthew 20:34)
I heard a news story of a blind woman who received sight through a "new" surgery. The surgery was new to her, but actually had been around for years. She could have had sight for much of her life, but failed to act.
I was reminded of another interesting story of blindness. What happened with the two blind men in Matthew? First, they heard Jesus was coming and jumped at the chance for His help. Second, they were not discouraged by the disdainful crowds who tried to silence them. Third, they acted on the faith they had. Next, they brought their great request to God. And finally, they were grateful and went away changed.
For us, too, now is the time for Jesus. Do not be discouraged from coming to Him. Act on whatever faith you have. Bring your life issues - big or small - to Him. See how He changes you! If these two men hadn't acted when they did, they would have gone through life blind physically and spiritually. Jesus never passed that way again; His next stop was Jerusalem and the Cross.

INSIGHT
The blind men let nothing stand in their way to get to Jesus. Won't you call out to Him, too?

Two Blind Men Receive Sight
29 As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. 30 Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!"
31 The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, "Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!"
32 Jesus stopped and called them. "What do you want me to do for you?" he asked.
33 "Lord," they answered, "we want our sight."
34 Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.
