ANCHOR DEVOTIONS (FEBRUARY 06,2012)

One Generation to Another
Psalm 145:1-13

"Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom. One generation will commend your works to another; they will tell of your mighty acts."
(Psalm 145:3-4)
I read an article titled "The Fall of Christianity in America," which describes how America has moved steadily away from its roots of Christian values. The author challenges the Church to carry the urgent message of Christ to the next generation.
I have found over years in ministry that many of the younger generation are "checking out" Christianity, first to see if it's desirable, and then to see if it's doable. While David urges us in today's psalm to commend the works of God in our lives to the generations to come, many young believers are not interested in what already was.
Let's not neglect to tell the stories we know of God's greatness, of His presence, of answered prayer, and of guidance in our lives. The next generation is loaded with energy and potential. Show them that Christianity is more than "desirable" and "doable" because of Jesus' great desire for them and because of what He already has done. Let your life bring to the next generation a fresh encounter with God's faithfulness.
INSIGHT
Our life stories display the power of the Gospel to redeem our mistakes, heal our brokenness, and bring glory to God.

Psalm 145:1-13
A psalm of praise. Of David.
1 I will exalt you, my God the King;
I will praise your name for ever and ever.
2 Every day I will praise you
and extol your name for ever and ever.
3 Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise;
his greatness no one can fathom.
4 One generation commends your works to another;
they tell of your mighty acts.
5 They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty—
and I will meditate on your wonderful works.
6 They tell of the power of your awesome works—
and I will proclaim your great deeds.
7 They celebrate your abundant goodness
and joyfully sing of your righteousness.
8 The LORD is gracious and compassionate,
slow to anger and rich in love.
9 The LORD is good to all;
he has compassion on all he has made.
10 All your works praise you, LORD;
your faithful people extol you.
11 They tell of the glory of your kingdom
and speak of your might,
12 so that all people may know of your mighty acts
and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures through all generations.
The LORD is trustworthy in all he promises
and faithful in all he does.
