ANCHOR DEVOTIONS (SEPTEMBER 16, 2012)

Jesus Prays for Us

1 Peter 3:7-12

"Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives...as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers."
(1 PETER 3:7)

A small circular smudge began mysteriously appearing on our fridge door every day. I would wipe it off, but each day it re-appeared. I finally discovered that my husband was using the fridge door as a vertical prayer mat, leaning his head against it while filling the kettle for our morning tea. I never wiped that smudge off again! It reminds me how blessed I am to have a husband who is faithful in prayer for me.

The Bible tells us that the prayers of a righteous man are effective. We must remember, however, that even a "righteous man" - your godly husband, father, pastor, brother, sister, mother - is not truly righteous. The only truly righteous man is the church's husband, Jesus. He it is who leaves His prayer mark at the throne of the Father as He intercedes for us daily and for those who will hear His good news through us. His Spirit takes our every sigh and transforms it into a prayer, acceptable to God the Father. Jesus' prayers are never hindered, for He loves His bride perfectly and forever.

1 Peter 3:7-12
New International Version (NIV)
7 Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.
Suffering for Doing Good
8 Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. 9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. 10 For,
“Whoever would love life
and see good days
must keep their tongue from evil
and their lips from deceitful speech.
11 They must turn from evil and do good;
they must seek peace and pursue it.
12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their prayer,
but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”[a]

HOPE FOR YOUR PRODIGAL [PART 5]
with Barbara Juliani

Have you ever run away from home? You may not have left mom and dad, but we all are runaways in a spiritual sense. We have all run from the Lord, but nothing can compare to the feeling of coming home.
