Stress Therapy
Isaiah 12:1-6
"Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation."
(Isaiah 12:2)
I drove by a sign on the freeway that caught my attention. It said, "Stress Therapy - a Lazy Boy Chair." If only it were that simple! Our days are filled with stress, uncertainty, financial woes, family conflict and governmental chaos. Through all of that, only God is our strength, song and comfort.
Isaiah was writing during a crucial time in the life of Israel and Judah which, while prospering, were tolerating carnal pleasures. He was laying a foundation of hope and promise for the faithful remnant of God's people. Chapter 12 describes the best of stress therapy - a song of praise. It's a picture of joy for God's people when He, the Messiah reigns... and will ultimately reign over all the earth. He delights in meeting us at the point of our need. "The Lord, the Lord," is an emphatic statement reminding us that in Him alone we find relief from life's troubles. A Lazy Boy chair may provide stress therapy for some, but we know that through Christ we have true rest in the arms of our Savior.

"What a fellowship, what a joy divine, Leaning on the everlasting arms!"

Songs of Praise
1 In that day you will say:
"I will praise you, LORD.
Although you were angry with me,
your anger has turned away
and you have comforted me.
2 Surely God is my salvation;
I will trust and not be afraid.
The LORD, the LORD himself, is my strength and my defense[a];
he has become my salvation."
3 With joy you will draw water
from the wells of salvation.
4 In that day you will say:
"Give praise to the LORD, proclaim his name;
make known among the nations what he has done,
and proclaim that his name is exalted.
5 Sing to the LORD, for he has done glorious things;
let this be known to all the world.
6 Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion,
for great is the Holy One of Israel among you."
