Gracious Words
Colossians 4:2-6
"Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone."
(COLOSSIANS 4:6)
Paul - who knew all about rules - wrote to the Colossians to fortify them against false teachers who were imposing rules about eating, drinking and religious festivals. Showing the superiority of Christ over all human philosophies and traditions, Paul concludes with, "let your conversation be always full of grace."
Paul tells his readers then and us now that we died to the elemental things of the world. So why cling to rules about eating or not eating or anything that promotes self-made religion? Showy means of asceticism may give an admirable outward appearance, but they do not get at the heart of the matter: our sinful selves that need washing in God's grace.
In the turmoil of nations at war, financial ruin, and the fear of natural disasters, "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom..." (Colossians 3:16), so that the overflow of your heart would be gracious words which draw you and those around you nearer to Christ, the Creator and Sustainer of all.

Further Instructions
2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. 3 And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. 4 Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. 5 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
