ANCHOR DEVOTIONS (MAY 12, 2012)

Wholly Holy
1 Thessalonians 5:16-24

"May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May... [you] be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it."
(1 THESSALONIANS 5:23-24)
Someone once said, "God is easy to please but hard to satisfy." Does that resonate with you? Let me explain it this way. Suppose you had a 10-month old child who was ready to take her first steps. You would be pleased and excited when she did so. But would you be satisfied if she never learned to walk better than that?
Like a loving father, God is pleased with our first feeble steps in our Christian walk. But He is not satisfied with that. He wants us to grow and mature so that our walk with Him progresses throughout our journey as believers. God intends to make us holy "through and through." He wants us to be wholly holy and will settle for nothing less. And lest you feel discouraged about that, remember that verse 24 tells us He will do it! God does not leave us on our own to grow up any more than a parent would leave a child to her own. He is with us all the way. "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus" (Philippians 1:6).

1 Thessalonians 5:16-24
New International Version (NIV)

16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not treat prophecies with contempt 21 but test them all; hold on to what is good, 22 reject every kind of evil.

23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.

ALL OTHER GROUND [PART 3]
Jesus says you can't serve two masters. If you try you will love one master and hate the other. You can't serve both God and money.
